Goostrey's Young People

The new Young People's Centre is intended for universal use by any young people in the area of Goostrey. It is envisaged that major use will be by uniformed and non-uniformed organisations and casual use for young people's events. This will include instruction classes such as dance, also band practices and preparation activities for the village Rose Day.

Rainbows

Rainbows are the youngest girls in the Guide Movement. Aged between 5 and 7, they meet at present in the Methodist church hall, enjoying a range of activities and joining older members for special occasions. They can be recognised by their bright red pinafores.

Brownies

Brownies are aged between 8 and 10. They meet in the old school hall and enjoy a variety of activities. One of the favourites is Pack Holiday, to be held this year at Waddow Hall, a national Training and Activity centre in a delightful setting in Lancashire.

Guides

Guides are from 11 upwards. Goostrey Guides meet in the present Youth Centre, engaging in a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities. This summer they have been involved with a Commonwealth Games challenge, and enjoyed outdoor cooking and barbecues. In July they will be visiting Castleton in the Peak District. It is hoped that the Goostrey Guides website will be available during the Autumn term. Visit them at www.goostreyguides.org.uk

Beavers

Beavers are the youngest boys in the Scout Movement. Aged between 5 and 7, they meet in the Pencol Building, located 1.5 miles outside the village. They can be recognised by their smart turquoise neckers.

Cubs

Cubs are aged between 7 and 10. Also meeting in the Pencol Building, they enthusiastically tackle everything before them and revel in their annual Cub Camp.

Scouts

Scouts start from 11 upwards. They meet in the Pencol Building and undertake a range of indoor and outdoor activities. This year they've been camping at the 'Chamboree' and have an international (JOTA) weekend in October when they are in contact with Scouts all over the world, via radio and on the Internet.
