Jubilee Ball

Organised by Goostrey Parish Council, the Jubilee Ball was held on Friday, 12th April 2002 at the Village Hall, to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee and at the some time it raised some £1,500 for the Goostrey Young People's Project.

All agreed it was one of the best nights in the village for a long time. The specially decorated hall was packed to capacity and everyone enjoyed a splendid meal, followed by dancing to Simply the Best disco.

Jubilee Ball
The Loyal Toast was amended to reflect the Queen's Jubilee and the Toast to Goostrey Parish Council was proposed by a former councillor, now Chairman of the Goostrey Young People's Project.

The Chairman of the Parish Council thanked all who had been involved in arranging the event and said that Goostrey was a very special place in which to live. She hoped that the activities of the parish council would continue to ensure that it remained so. There was a successful prize draw, supported by many local and national businesses, who donated more than 25 prizes.

Jubilee Picnic

To celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee, a Jubilee picnic was arranged on Bank Holiday Monday, 3rd June at the Booth Bed Lane Sports Field. Billed as an event for the whole village, there was a BYO picnic, a plant stall, a cake stall, and informal field games were planned during the afternoon.
The day turned out to be disappointingly wet, but several people managed to picnic properly outside with large umbrellas while others sought shelter within the pavilion.

The event was attended by Goostrey's own Royal visitor, our Rose Queen at the time, who drew the raffle.

A few games were played, and during the afternoon, many villagers crowded into the pavilion where vast quantities of delicious cakes and tea were bought and enjoyed.

They were also treated to scenes from the Queen's 50 years reign, as a Jubilee video was playing in one corner. It was a splendid event despite the uncooperative weather, and over £450 was raised for GYPP. Many thanks to all who organised, helped and took part.

'A Touch of Autumn'
A truly autumnal event was arranged on behalf of Goostrey Guides, Brownies and Rainbows by their new Parents' Committee, on Tuesday, 24th September.

'A Touch of Autumn' was a demonstration with a difference. An enthusiastic welcome was given to Marilyn Lloyd showing us a range of beautiful Autumnal flower arrangements and Pat Schofield demonstrating some imaginative 'no-cook' Harvest cookery.

The audience was invited to taste the dishes prepared and the flower arrangements were kindly donated as raffle prizes. Guides, Brownies and Rainbows served cake and coffee during the interval. Many thanks to our two Demonstrators and to the Parents' Committee for organising the event.

Around £350 was raised for GYPP.      Click on pictures for more photographs of flowers and food

Balloon Race - Rose Day

GYPP enjoyed very visible presence at Rose Day on 29th June with a Balloon Race organised by the GYPP committee. Manchester Airport had been alerted for the event and gas bottles and balloons had been assembled in advance. Almost 100 balloons were released during the afternoon, all with address labels attached. Some went up and away across the fields and some rose over the church tower. It is hoped that eventual recipients will return the labels. Prizes will be awarded for the furthest travellers. The balloons could reach France, Norway or Iceland! The winner lives in Holland and the winning label was bought by a member of the Parish Council who wins a £25 voucher. Labels returned from Nottinghamshire
