News

A 'Seed Corn' project is underway with the uniformed organisations - see Fund Raising and Village Event pages.

Rose Day included  2 events supporting  GYPP: the Balloon Race (see Village Events page) and part proceeds from the Pilgrim's Pancake Stall. Many thanks to all who helped and supported both.

Update - The first labels returned from the Balloon Race were from Holland and Nottinghamshire.

'A Touch of Autumn' was enjoyed by many as local experts demonstrated flower arrangements and 'no-cook' cookery with a Harvest theme. (see Village Events page)

Key Dates

2000

September  

Following numerous discussions, a meeting was convened to discuss formally the future of the Youth Centre.  In the provision of a facility suitable for young people's activities, there were many problems associated with the age and condition of the present building. Representatives from all interested parties were invited to attend. It was decided to consider ideas for replacing the present building, formerly a World War 1 hut, with a modern, purpose-built building. 

October

An approach was made to Goostrey Parish Council, outlining ideas and seeking approval to continue, as the building is sited on land leased from the Parish Council. The responsive was supportive and an initial donation to 'kick-start' the project was approved.

December

Participating organisations had been consulted and an initial design for the new building was produced.

2001

April

A planning application was submitted to Congleton Borough Council.  A competition was launched to design a logo for GYPP.

 

August

 

Independent judges considered entries in the logo competition. Prizes were awarded for ages up to 11 yrs and 12 yrs and over. It was decided to use one of the designs in producing a logo for use on stationery and publicity material

October

The planning application was approved by Congleton Borough Council

November

The first Annual General Meeting of the Goostrey Young People's Project was held.

2002

January

A business plan was being drawn up and financial arrangements were in preparation. Detailed plans were being discussed

April

An application for a Lottery Grant was submitted. The Jubilee Ball held by the Parish Council was a splendid event and an excellent start to fund-raising

June

Fund raising activities by all participating groups were underway. A Jubilee picnic was held on the Jubilee Bank Holiday and Rose Day saw the start of a Balloon Race.

August

The GYPP Project Development Plan was completed, in preparation for a Lottery application.

September

An application to the Lottery Fund was presented. Other opportunities for grants were being investigated. Goostrey Guides, Brownies and Rainbows arranged a demonstration evening entitled 'A Touch of Autumn'.
